Aplagon Raises EUR 4.8M To Expand Phase 2 Thrombo-Inflammation Program

HELSINKI, Finland – June 16, 2026. Aplagon, a clinical-stage biotechnology company developing APAC, a first-in-class antiplatelet and anticoagulant therapy for thrombo-inflammatory diseases, today announced the successful closing of a EUR 4.8 million (approximately USD 5.6 million) financing round. The funding will support the expansion of its Phase 2 clinical development program targeting arteriovenous fistula (AVF) maturation failure in end-stage kidney disease.

The financing round was led by existing investors Fåhraeus Startup & Growth (FSG) and the European Innovation Council (EIC) Fund, with continued participation from Finnish investors including the Jenny and Antti Wihuri Foundation, Innovestor, and the Gösta Serlachius Fine Arts Foundation.

According to Aplagon CEO Aki Prihti, the investment marks a significant milestone in advancing APAC’s clinical development.

“This financing represents another important milestone for Aplagon as we continue to build momentum around APAC and its potential across a broad range of serious thrombo-inflammatory diseases,” said Prihti. “The funding supports expansion of our Phase 2 program in Europe for AVF, following our recent CTA filing with the EMA. Continued backing from experienced healthcare investors validates both our clinical progress and APAC’s differentiated mechanism of action.”

FSG General Partner Johanna Asklin highlighted the company’s continued execution and therapeutic promise.

“Aplagon is addressing a major unmet need in thrombo-inflammatory disease with a highly differentiated approach that may transform outcomes across vascular indications,” Asklin said. “We are pleased to continue supporting the team as they advance toward key clinical milestones.”

APAC is designed to mimic naturally occurring mast cell-derived heparin proteoglycans, enabling localized delivery at vascular injury sites. The therapy provides sustained antithrombotic and anti-inflammatory activity, offering potential advantages over conventional treatments in diseases driven by both thrombosis and inflammation.

More than 70 participants have received APAC to date, with no significant safety concerns reported.

Arteriovenous fistula (AVF) maturation failure remains a major challenge in end-stage kidney disease patients requiring hemodialysis. Approximately 130,000 AVFs are created annually in the United States, with nearly half failing to mature adequately, often resulting in repeat procedures, hospitalizations, and increased healthcare costs.

Aplagon believes APAC’s localized vascular protective mechanism may improve AVF outcomes by reducing platelet activation and vascular injury immediately following surgical creation. The company also sees broader potential applications across vascular interventions where thrombosis and inflammation contribute to poor outcomes.

The company recently initiated its Phase 2a “HEALING” clinical trial in peripheral arterial occlusive disease (PAOD) leading to chronic limb-threatening ischemia (CLTI).

About Aplagon Oy

Aplagon is a clinical-stage biotechnology company developing APAC, a first-in-class antiplatelet and anticoagulant platform targeting thrombo-inflammatory diseases. Its lead clinical programs focus on AVF maturation failure and CLTI, with additional applications across cardiovascular and vascular intervention settings.

APAC is designed for in-hospital use and can be administered locally or via IV infusion, providing flexibility across multiple clinical environments. The platform is based on research conducted at the Wihuri Research Institute in Helsinki, Finland under Professor Riitta Lassila.

To date, Aplagon has raised more than EUR 20 million through equity financing and non-dilutive funding from Nordic and European investors, including FSG and the European Innovation Council.
